MAQNIFY Guide
Umkirch town council
Design and development of a digital walking tour of the town
October 2021 to July 2022
The municipality of Umkirch lies to the west of Freiburg and to the east of Tuniberg and Kaiserstuhl. First mentioned in a document in 1087 as "untkilicha", the municipality looks back on almost a thousand years of history and thus offers much to discover.
In order to expand the tourist offer in Umkirch, MAQNIFY was commissioned with the conception of a digital tour of the village as well as the corresponding signage panels. The project was initiated jointly by the municipality of Umkirch and the local history society.
With the new innovative and modern service, holidaymakers, day trippers and locals can now find out about Umkirch's exciting history and sights at any time.
On a total of 10 stations, the town centre can be explored on your own and at your own pace over a distance of about two kilometres in three languages (German, English and French), in order to also pick up international guests.
To make it quick and easy for visitors and guests to get started on the digital trail, MAQNIFY designed QR code boards - also in three languages - for all the stations and the municipality of Umkirch attached them to the individual stations. The QR codes lead directly to the digital circular route.
For smartphone and tablet users without an app for scanning the QR code, the web address (URL) is also provided on all panels for typing in.
