New visitor guidance system for the Bergring town of Teterow

New visitor guidance system for the Bergring town of Teterow Teterow is located right in the heart of Mecklenburg Switzerland. Over the past centuries, the former Slavic settlement has blossomed into a small town well worth a visit. The medieval town centre is well preserved and invites you to explore. The historic Burgwallinsel in Lake Teterow, Europe's most beautiful grass racecourse and the pranks of the ancients have made Teterow famous far beyond the town's borders. The town of Teterow has now set up a high-quality, user-friendly visitor guidance and information system. It makes it easier for guests with disabilities in particular to find their way around sights and excursion destinations. With the help of the guidance and information system, guests are picked up where they arrive and guided into and through the Bergring town. In addition to the pure orientation function, the guidance and information system also presents the sights and leisure facilities of the town and its districts. New tourist developments such as audio files that can be called up using a QR code, geo-based pop-ups, GPS tracks etc. are used here. As an alternative to the tourist information centre and the town hall, guests are given the opportunity to access information outside of regular opening hours. Users can also get an overview of the designated hiking area using attractive orientation boards.

The visitor guidance system is complex and designed for different target groups. Pedestrians are guided through the city centre, and the hiking trail network and cycling concept are connected. Information boards are attached to the historic buildings, which make further information digitally accessible via QR code. In addition, there is a digital city tour that tells historical stories, e.g. the "Schildbürgerstreiche". This is to be constantly updated. This is a particularly good way of awakening young people's interest in the town's history.

The system includes tourist and leisure industry offers as well as information on shopping opportunities and events. The use of internationally recognised symbols makes orientation easier, even for non-native speakers. The POIs (places of interest) are also described in English.

Concept design for the new Teterow visitor guidance system

The historic old town with its cobblestones is a challenge when it comes to accessibility. Nevertheless, it has been possible to make it easier for people with disabilities to use the tourist attractions. Routes have been prioritised on suitable routes and the information pillars with integrated city maps contain information on any obstacles, such as steps and inclines.
